WVDEP sponsoring Dam Safety workshop

 

The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection’s Dam Safety Program is sponsoring a one-day workshop for dam owners and monitors on Thursday, May 8, at North Bend State Park in Cairo, Ritchie County.

The workshop, which will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., is designed to provide practical information on topics of importance to anyone who owns or monitors a dam. Topics to be covered include: Dam Safety Act and rule; legal liabilities; dam terminology and inspection guidelines; safety precautions and causes of dam failures; maintenance problems and solutions; hiring an engineer and project costs; and monitoring and emergency action plan preparation.

The early registration fee is $30. It will cost $35 at the door. As part of the registration fee, workshop participants will receive a CD-ROM with the presentations and other valuable resources.
